Navel Oranges as Pumpkins
For healthy treats give out little oranges decorated as pumpkins. This is great for a kids party or an adult party. It will also make parents of your trick or treaters very happy.
Fruit Ghosts and Pumpkins
Another healthy idea with fruits, this one is great for a kid party. Cut bananas in half and decorate them as ghosts with raisins or mini chocolate chips. You can also peel the oranges for your little guys and create stems with celery. They look beautiful as small pumpkins.
Orange Jack-o-lantern Salad Cups
Use your orange peels as mini salad cups for the grown ups or use this idea to get the little guys to eat salad. We think they are very classy.
Marshmallow Blood Shot Eye Balls
We love these creepy eye balls made with marshmallows, dried cranberries and strawberry syrup. Sweet yummy flavors in a fun treat.
Nutter Butter Ghost Cookies
We love this idea for ghosts using nutter butter cookies. It’s a easy semi-homemade treat. Wrap them in individual cello bags or even vellum pouches for Halloween party favor presentation.
It’s the first day of fall and the Autumn Equinox has arrived. The Autumn Equinox is the time when the Earth will reach a point in its orbit known as the equinox, where the sun shines directly on the equator. This is when for just one day, both hemispheres of the Earth experience 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness, before parting temporal ways. This moment in time has been a ritualistic time for many parts of the world. There are various celebrations and observances.
In China the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated around the time of the September equinox. It celebrates the abundance of the summer’s harvest and one of the main foods is the mooncake filled with lotus, sesame seeds, a duck egg or dried fruit.
Buddhist services are observed in Japan during both the equinox. Higan, or Higan-e, is a week of Buddhist services and it is a time to remember the dead by visiting, cleaning and decorating their graves. Higan means the “other shore” and refers to the spirits of the dead reaching Nirvana.
Generally, the autumn equinox is an indicator of the arrival of fall and a time of harvest, when many have celebrations and give thanks. So, if you are having a harvest celebration, you may bring to the table root vegetables and grains for a hearty meal and be thankful for your bounty. Light candles that are symbolic of the plentiful, such as green and gold colored candles. Create a beautiful table setting with all the elements of fall.
Enjoy the food, laughter, and appreciate your good company. In a giving gesture, offering parting gifts to your guests, such as Autumn Equinox Party Crackers wrapped in apple themed paper.
